10th of Nissan

Video of the Day

Chassidishe maaseh
The Baal Shem Tov was once approached with a question. “Why is it that Chassidim burst into song at the slightest incident? Is this a sane individual’s behavior?” That Besh’t responded with a mashal. Once a great musician came to town and stood on the street corner and began to play. All the townspeople who walked by were enthralled by his music and stood to listen as if in a trance. Soon the whole town was surrounding this musician and they broke out in dance. The whole street was transformed into a dancing mass. A deaf man walked by and asked, “Has the world gone mad? Why are the townspeople jumping up and down?” The Besh’t explained that Chassidim are moved by the melody that issues forth from every creature. If this makes us appear mad to those with less sensitive ears, should we therefore cease to dance?”

Question of the day
What did the deaf man say?

Video of the Day

Chassidishe Maaseh
Reb Mendel Futerfas was watching a tight rope walker; First he climbed up onto the rope, took a few steps, lost his balance and fell. He waited a few seconds and climbed up again and fell again the same way. Eventually he started walking, and then dancing to the rhythm of the clapping onlookers. Then he got to the end, turned around, danced back to where he started, and climbed down. Reb Mendel told him that he was impressed, but he couldn't understand how he did it. After much prompting he finally revealed his secret. The tight rope walker said, “I fix my eye on where I'm going and stay focused. But the hardest part of all is turning around because then you lose sight of the goal for a second….”From here we learn that as long as we are focused on our goal, we can make it across the ‘tight rope’ of the world!

Question of the day
What lesson in Avodas Hashem did Reb Mendel learn?

Chasidishe Maaseh
Rabbi Eliyahu Yosef of Dribin, a chassid of The Tzemach Tzedek, suffered from a critical illness. The Tzemach Tzedek advised him to relocate to Eretz Yisroel, were he completely recovered. The T”T later explained that in a certain section of the Shulchana Aruch, two great halachic authorities, the Beis Yosef and the Ramoh disagree regarding Reb Eliyahu Yosef's 'case'. The Ramoh rules that an animal with such an illness cannot survive a year and is therefore treif and unfit for consumption; the Beis Yosef, however, holds that it is kosher. In Europe, where we rule according to the Ramoh, Reb Eliyahu Yosef was afflicted with a fatal illness that he wouldn't survive, G-d forbid; but in the Eretz Yisroel, where the rulings of the Beis Yosef are followed, his recovery could be achieved.

Question of the day
What happened to Rabbi Dribrin once he moved to Israel?

Hachlata of the day

Chassidishe Maaseh
During the excitement of a Farbrengen, one of the tables in 770 collapsed. Not wanting to disturb the Rebbe’s sicha, the Chassidim quietly removed it out of 770. Only after the Rebbe concluded the sicha did the he notice what had happened. He was then reminded of a story. "Rabbi Levi Yitzchok of Barditchov had concluded his study of shchita and was preparing to slaughter his first hen. He took the bird in his left hand, and diligently prepared it for the shechting. In his right he held the chalef. With great concentration he recited the blessing. In the meantime, the hen decided that, it was high time she ran for her life. The Barditchover concluded the blessing and exclaimed “Where is the hen…?” From here we learn that a person could be having all the right focus, intentions, and involvement but if you forget to take action then you completely...completely missed the point.

Question of the day
What happened to the hen?

Hachlata of the day

Chassidishe Maaseh
The Rebbe Rashab was afflicted with problems of the gallbladder, and occasionally suffered from gallstones. One time while being visited by his physician, Dr. Shachor, a sudden attack came on and the Rebbe’s body was racked with pain. Nonetheless, the Rebbe stood up and davened Mincha. Afterward, the doctor approached the Rebbe and asked why he didn’t wait until after the attack to daven. If he would have waited, the pains would subside. “I didn’t know that,” answered the Rebbe. “I figured that the pains were liable to get worse, so I davened while I was still able to.”

Question of the day
Why did the Rebbe Rashab daven right away?
